Chris Benn is an experienced data protection and privacy lawyer and has most recently finished an assignment at ISS Facility Services UK as Interim Head of Data Protection and Legal Compliance.
Chris graduated in June 2013 from Aston University with a first class LLB honours degree in Law with Management. During the third year of his undergraduate degree, he worked as Legal Intern at UBS Global Asset Management.
After graduating, Chris undertook a full-time training contract in-house with BT; studying the LPC part-time on weekends and achieved a distinction in July 2015. He spent the final seven months of his training contract in Hong Kong advising BT’s EMEA and APAC divisions.
Chris qualified in August 2016 and joined Kemp Little; a boutique technology and media specialist law firm (acquired by Deloitte Legal in February 2021). Since qualification, he spent over four years working in private practice, including at international law firms Pinsent Masons and Fieldfisher. During his time working in private practice, Chris undertook client secondments at Accenture, Onfido and Pets at Home.
His passion for working in-house led Chris to JD Sports Fashion plc and a role as Senior Privacy and Technology Counsel. He supported the JD Group with its compliance with data protection laws and procurement of IT software and services.
In 2022, Chris ventured into the world of legal consultancy leading to assignments as Senior Privacy Legal Counsel at Booking.com and Solicitor and Data Protection Officer at BBC Children in Need. For ad-hoc / project support, he offers legal consultancy services via Privacy Assured Limited.
